Family Pics

My sweet friend, Kathryn, came over a few weeks ago and took some newborn and family pics for us.  They turned out SO good!  I had a really hard time picking which ones to frame for our living room.  Thank you, Kathryn!

A Day in the Life...

I got this idea from my friend, Shelly, who did "A Week in the Life" last week on her blog. I thought it was such a good idea and wish I would have done something like that those first few weeks with Macy (when everything is a blur!)

However, we are very boring and do pretty much the same thing from day to day, so I decided to just do a day in the life.

My day usually starts around 7:00 with Eden waking up to eat. Josh has been out of town a lot lately so he's usually leaving or already left when I get up with Eden. With Macy, we would go back to sleep for a little bit after her early feeding. Eden and I have done the same thing! I put her in her bouncy seat by the bed and we go back to sleep until Macy gets up around 8:00 or 8:30. Eden stays and sleeps in her seat while I go get Macy up and breakfast started. Macy likes to savor breakfast and she usually sits at the table until after 9:00. Sometimes she will stay there and color or do playdough after she's finished. I clean up from breakfast and try to either put things away or start some laundry, whatever needs to be done (that I didn't do the day before!) while Eden's sleeping and Macy's playing.

Eden usually starts stirring around 10:00 to eat again. Macy's favorite show right now is Super Why! (which just so happens to come on at 10) so she usually watches that while I feed Eden. If we have any errands to run or need to go somewhere, I try to do it all around lunchtime (11:00-1:00) so we can be back home for naps. Macy used to transfer really well from her carseat if she fell asleep in the car, but lately what happens is she gets a 15 minute power nap and fights her nap in her bed for over an hour before she will fall back asleep. She will just play and jump around in her crib! By the time she falls asleep and takes a good nap, it's 5:30 before she wakes up. Which throws off bedtime and...you get the picture! So after Eden eats, if we're going somewhere, we try to get ready real quick and leave the house around 11 or shortly after. We eat lunch around noon (our usual options are: eating with Nana at her new apartment, eating with my dad at my parents house, eating with the Gentry's, or eating at home (which we've done quite a bit lately) If Josh is in town, we definitely take advantage of time with him and will go pick him up from the office to go eat.

Eden eats again at 1:00 and Macy usually plays during this time so I can put both girls down for naps around the same time. Macy goes down around 1:15-1:30. I like to cuddle Eden for a little bit before I put her down. Most days, if Eden sleeps well for me, I have from 2:00-4:00 to sew, read, lay down myself, clean up a bit, etc. Eden eats again around 4:00 and Macy is usually starting to wake up when she's done eating around 4:30. I start dinner at this point. Eden either plays on her playmat or lays in her swing in her room since it's by the kitchen and I can hear her. Macy plays or watches a show (lately she's been asking for "Pooh Movie" during this time). Josh is home around 5:30-6:00 and we eat dinner. If we have any errands to run together we usually go right after dinner since Eden will eat again around 7 or 7:30. While I feed Eden, Josh gives Macy her bath and gets her ready for bed. Around 8, after Macy's bath, she watches Mickey Mouse then Mommy brushes her teeth and Daddy reads a Bible story. She's usually down around 8:30-8:45. Eden usually cat naps during this time then eats again at 10:30 before she goes down for the night.

Super interesting, I know!!

While I am a little type A and like my schedule, Eden is really good about going with the flow. We went to Dallas with Josh last Saturday (he actually had to work) and shopped at Northpark mall. She did great in the car and either rode in the stroller with Macy or I carried her in the Bjorn while we shopped.

And sweet Macy is ready for some playdates! We were getting out quite a bit before Eden came and I know she misses her friends (and getting out of the house for other reasons besides just going to Hobby Lobby real quick!) We tried Jumping Jacks a few weeks ago and I brought a bottle for Eden. There were so many kids in there though that I almost had a panic attack! I hated to leave Eden sitting in her seat by herself but I was scared to let Macy out of my sight! We are ready for some cooler weather so we can go to the park and burn off some energy :-)

2 months and 21 months

Eden was two months old on Saturday and today we went for her 2 month well check and shots. Can't believe it's already time for those dreaded shots!!

Not a clue what's about to happen...

Big sister pep talk! (Josh of course took Macy out of the room before shots. She would have undoubtedly lost it to see Eden cry like that.)

Sweet girl, you got a great report!! You only cried for a second and stopped as soon as Mommy cuddled you.

Eden, at two months you are:

  • 9 pounds and 4 ounces (12th%)
  • 22 inches long!! (95th%) **They told us this %, but when I got home I checked Macy's. She was actually longer, 22.7 in., which was 70th%. So not sure what % Eden was in but it wasn't 95th!
  • in size 1 diapers (we switched around 7 weeks. Although they are still pretty big, they fit better than newborns)
  • Outgrowing newborn clothes in length but 0-3 still fits a little big
  • can't keep shoes or socks on (tiny, narrow feet!)
  • smiling and cooing
  • sleeping through the night. Such a blessing! Started around 7 weeks but had to have your paci put in some during the night. The last 4-5 nights you have not made a peep until 6:30-7.
  • Still sleeping in Mommy and Daddy's room (Don't want you waking up big sister at 7!)
  • like to sleep with your hands up by your face
  • Seem to be more of a cuddly baby than sister
  • still liking your Mams paci
Miss Eden, you truly are a joy!! We can't get enough of you and we're enjoying the sweet little smiles and giggles you are giving on a regular basis these days. Can't wait to watch that personality develop more and more and see how you interact with sister. She is blessed to have you!!

One of my favorite outfits on Macy

Macy girl, you are 3 short months away from turning 2!?!? Can't believe it.

At 21 months, you are:

  • Probably around 23 pounds
  • Outgrowing your summer clothes (which are mainly 12 month clothes). 18 months is starting to fit better now
  • In size 4 diapers although keeping our diapers on right now is an issue! If that's a sign for potty-training, I'm choosing to ignore it! Not ready yet to tackle that one:-)
  • Still sleeping 8:30-8:30 with a 3 hour afternoon nap
  • Loving the show Super Why! It's your new favorite and you request it all the time. You also like this Winnie the Pooh movie I bought at Mommy and Me. You call it "Pooh Movie" and ask for it as well.
  • Still sleeping with Piglet and will ask me for him when you start to get sleepy
  • Still eating everything in sight!
  • Possibly teething right now because we have had a rough few weeks temperament-wise. I think you are cutting some molars. We've been extremely whiny and irritable!
  • Talking up a storm! You are using sentences now and it blows my mind how quickly you pick up on things. You can hear something said once, remember it and use it correctly in a sentence later on. I love having little conversations with you!
  • Praying the sweetest prayers right now! You thank Jesus for anything in your line of sight and then for every family member's name you can think of (you have a lot!)
  • Counting up to 6 (sometimes you change the order up, but you can do it correctly!)
Macy girl, even on days when you have me pulling my hair out, I could just eat you up! You are a little doll and I'm addicted to making you smile by surprising you with something you enjoy doing or a new little toy or book from the store. You get so excited and I just can't help myself!! I love seeing that sweet little face light up. You are curious and love learning new things. You get bored with old toys and are always trying to find something new to entertain yourself. You love books and singing. You are the greatest big sister and I love how you ask for Eden right as you wake up in the morning. God has given you such a sweet and compassionate heart and I love seeing it when you care for your little sister.

We finally turned you around in the car so you can see out the windows now! You love it!

You saw this Winnie the Pooh fabric at Hobby Lobby one day and I knew I had to make you something with it. I decided on a nightgown...

Version 2.0

We have lovingly started referring to Eden as Version 2.0 since we feel like we are reliving our first weeks with Macy! These girls are so similar! Not just physically, but we've seen how they have the same eating habits and follow the same schedule. How similar their mannerisms are and how 100 times a day I can see Macy, a few weeks old, in Eden's expressions. *NOTE: Josh likes to say Eden is Version 2.0 with a software upgrade since she doesn't spit up as much as sister:-)

I promise Eden will not spend her life being compared to Macy, so please don't worry! We can't wait to see her develop her own little personality and quirks. It's just been so entertaining to see how identical they've been. I keep telling people we must not have a lot of creativity in our genes!

Eden started sleeping through the night last Wednesday, 7 weeks and 2 days. I knew Macy slept through the night around 7 weeks, so I decided to pull out her calendar and look. You guessed it: 7 weeks and 2 days! Neither one of my girls have been big demand eaters, I typically have to initiate feedings during the day, about every 3 hours. Now if we're out and about and it gets well past three hours, she will definitely let me know!

Eden likes being swaddled now (not so much the first few weeks) just like Macy did. When we swaddle her at night, she knows it night-night time and she's down for the count. During the day, she likes to sleep on her side in her bouncy seat with her head way back, like sister. I used to think Macy looked so uncomfortable and now Eden sleeps the same way.

Macy's favorite place used to be her changing table and she would smile and giggle at us as long as we had her up there. Eden seems to love it too and we get her best smiles there. By the way, they both smiled around 5 weeks :-)

I do think Eden may be a little longer than Macy was and if possible, her eyes may be bigger. Can't wait to watch these sweet girls interact! Macy has been so good with her. One of her favorite things to do is put Eden's paci in when she's fussy. And she is so patient with her! If it takes a while for Eden to get it, she just holds it there saying "Shh, Shh, Shh" just like Mommy does. She also informs us every time Eden makes a peep: "-Ian needs her paci!". She loves to share her toys with her and will pile them on her when she's in her bouncy seat. She's very careful not to put anything by her head. I've been so proud of Macy and how she's handled this change in her world. It really has not even affected her. She continues to play like she used to and when I'm feeding Eden, she doesn't pay us much attention. She genuinely loves having her here. Such a blessing!
