Macy Update

Macy has had an eventful summer of teeth falling out, growing in her swimming skills, and enjoying gymnastics.

She weighs a little over 40 lbs now and is still a little taller than Eden, but not by much.  She is officially without her top two teeth and I knew that would change her appearance and make her look older.  It has!  She's lost 5 now.

She really enjoyed gymnastics and, even though it was just a short summer season, she really took off and learned some good basics.  I think she really wants to do fall, but we are going to stick with one thing for the time being and she's still taking piano.  Eden will also begin piano in the fall.  As I watch Macy though, I just think more and more she is going to be our athlete.  Just the way she is built and her personality.  She is super competitive and still seems to enjoy things that are faster paced like soccer.  She loved gymnastics but she still has a tendency to rush through things (like she did in dance).  It will be so fun to see the direction she goes in extracurriculars!

My favorite thing about Macy continues to be her determination and strength.  We still have our challenges with her will not always wanting to submit to authority.  But she does have a tenderness too and she will show remorse when she knows she's responded in a poor way or she was not truthful.  Another favorite thing about Macy is her sense of right and wrong, black and white.  Sometimes she will earn a consequence when we are away from home and by the time we get home, I've forgotten!  Macy will follow through.  She can be sneaky about certain things, but she doesn't forget or pretend to forget when we've given her instructions away from home.  We had a word chart for a while, and if she was told to erase a letter (or more) when we get home, she would go straight to the board and erase what we had told her to.  Even without being reminded, because 90% of the time, I had already forgotten :)

She is reading chapter books and still has such a crazy, amazing brain when it comes to math and numbers.  I'm excited to see what she learns this year in 1st grade.  She is becoming more and more of my homebody even though she is so social.  She's still not saying she's ready for school to start, but I know she will be when next week rolls around.  She has too much fun with her friends to fight going :)

Macy is still as independent as ever and it makes me smile when I see her taking initiative with Eden or Kate, helping them get dressed or get a snack.  She fixes her own hair and for the most part, does a great job.

It's so bittersweet seeing Macy grow and change so much as she gets further into being "school-aged".  I love our conversations and how much light she has in her eyes when she figures out new things.  She is such a great big sister and leader.  And such a lover of life!  My sweet big girl.  Can't imagine life without her presence.

Love you Macy Caroline!

This cracked me up.  When she finished her reader at the end of last year, she wrote Mrs. Lee a letter telling her...

Soccer camp back in June

Slow down, Macy girl!  You are getting too big.
